What will encourage the public's participation?

During our last EEWG call, the issue of how to engage the public and businesses on specific or general issues, was discussed.  One of our current needs is for as many Home Energy Surveys to be completed as possible, in order to provide an accurate data pool for many of the decisions that need to be made surrounding the EDIN effort.  Several of our group's local business members discussed promoting competitions or drawings with an opportunity for winning prizes if you complete a survey at their location.

What do you think, what are your ideas on completing incremental objectives and encouraging overall engagement in the effort to reduce petroleum use in the USVI?

Bi-Weekly Meeting Presentations

With our new EEWG meeting format, we have an opportunity each week for any organization interested to provide a five-minute presentation during our bi-weekly meetings.  The topics just need to encompass the realm of modern energy efficiency technologies and products.  The idea is to introduce EEWG group members to concepts that they may not be familiar with or may want to know more about. The presentation format is very relaxed, allowing for questions and discussion about the information provided. 

This is a great opportunity to allow individuals and organizations to make each other aware of what products and services they offer.  We are working on developing a networking system for organizations that support the EDIN effort and also on making a list of these organizations available to the public.  This would allow consumers that are interested to purchase from vendors that support the USVI efforts to reduce petroleum consumption.

Learning More About Residential Energy Efficiency

There was some interest expressed in learning more about residential energy efficiency in response to the poll we posted on the blog.  General Guidance and Financial Assistance were indicated as two areas that more information would be useful in.  We encourage you to post specific questions in response to this post, or to e-mail Miguel Quinones at the Virgin Islands Energy Office: mquinones@vienergy.org for answers to any questions that you do now wish to post to the open forum.

I thought the following link may be of interest if you are trying to figure out what to do with your old computer.  I have not researched all of the links for applicability to the USVI, but I know that some of the vendors listed as partipants are present on the islands.  If you choose to pursue the possibility of recycling your computer and find the opportunity lacking in your area, this may be another opportunity for improvement that you might participate in.

The EDIN USVI Energy Workshop Participation is Outstanding!

VIEO, WAPA, and the EDIN effort's support team are participating in the second day of the Workshop and things are going really well.  Many comments and suggestions have been received on how to best proceed with and improve on the great progress being achieved.  Both Bevan Smith and Hugo Hodge have been present and have shared the progress that both VIEO and WAPA are making towards the 60% energy reduction by 2025.  Around 75 people have participated and we are expecting another full day of education and advancement of the USVI's energy goals.  Stay tuned for updates and links to resources collected over the course of this event!

Miguel Quinones, of The Virgin Island's Energy Office, has been soliciting energy efficiency ideas from all EEWG participants.  If you have any ideas you would like to propose or discuss, please post them.  Depending on the level of response, there may be a little competition opened up that rewards those that share ideas that are adopted.
